To commemorate the V Centenary of the Round the World Tour, the Royal Spanish Mint is issuing a silver coin of 8 Reales, the first of four coins of the same metric to be issued over the next four years (one per year).

On the obverse are two images of Juan Sebastián Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan, taken from the portraits of both men in the Naval Museum in Madrid. Above these images is a compass rose. On the right, within an oval, a detail of the head of the sculptural work entitled 'Charles V' by Leone and Pompeo Leoni, which is in the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid; below, the legend CARLOS V and, below that, the date 2019. At the top of the coin, the legend ESPAÑA. At the bottom of the coin, the legends ELCANO and MAGALLANES, separated by a dash. The entire background of the coin is occupied by lines in the form of a grid of winds. The reverse shows a colourful scene of five ships crossing the sea. At the top of the coin, the value of the coin, 10 EURO; to the left, the mintmark; to the right, the coat of arms of Juan Sebastián Elcano. On the lower part of the coin, the legend V CENTENNIAL OF THE AROUND THE WORLD
