On the occasion of International Women's Day, and paying tribute to the educator and humanist María de Maeztu, the Royal Spanish Mint is issuing a new coin, dedicated to a woman who championed the struggle for women's education, which would lead to equality and freedom for women.
The reverse of the coin bears the image "María de Maeztu, doctor honoris causa by Smith College, 1919", which is kept in the Archives of the Residencia de Señoritas (Fundación José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón); on the left, the symbol of the woman, the face value 10 euro and the mint mark. Surrounding these motifs and legends are the legends 8-M International Women's Day and María de Maeztu.
