On the occasion of the 175th Anniversary of the Issue of the First Postage Stamp in Spain 1850-2025, the Spanish Mint issues a silver coin of 8 Reales. During the reign of Isabel II the first Spanish stamp "the 6 Cuartos Negro" was issued on 1st January 1850, under the Royal Decree of 24th October 1949, which indicated the use of postage stamps as payment of postage and certificate fees for correspondence. During this reign the construction of the modern post office, as we know it today, began, as well as the appearance of stamp collecting.
Silver .927mml 27 gr. ø 36 mm
The obverse of the coin shows an image of a map of Madrid in the mid-19th century, some postal letters and a bicycle used by the Post Office postmen in the 1960s for delivery. At the top is the face value 10 EURO and the mint mark. The reverse of the coin shows the first Correos stamp issued in Spain in 1850. The year of issue appears at the top and the legend ESPAÑA (SPAIN) at the bottom. In circular form and in capitals the legend "175 ANIVERSARY OF THE CIRCULATION OF THE FIRST POSTAL STAMP".
