Cy16504.- PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT - 20 Ctm 1869 (6-9) MADRID SNM. SC-

Provisional Government (1868-1871). 20 centimes. 1869*6-9. Madrid. SNM. (Cal-11). Ag. 0,97 g. The rarest coin of the Centenario de la Peseta, only 90 examples minted. Beautiful antique mnetario patina on original full lustre. Magnificent specimen. SC-. Certificate of authenticity.

As a Curiosity, Jesus Vico quotes in one of his auctions: "The 20 cent peseta piece was the smallest silver coin contemplated within the new monetary system created by the Provisional Government (19 October 1868) based on the peseta, but it was not minted in the first years of production, it was only produced at the beginning of the reign of Amadeo I by order of the Directorate General of the Treasury of 27 January 1871, then directed by Antonio Martínez Lage, who allocated 2 kilos of silver to make these pieces for the sole purpose of "collecting money", with fictitious issue dates (1869 and 1870) and production dates (1869 and 1870). The actual production of these pieces took place in March 1871 and a total of 5,091 pieces were minted (more than double the number originally envisaged in the order), with dates 69-69 and 70-70, without distinguishing in the account books the specific quantity of pieces of one or other date, all of them being in theory for collectors. They were never minted again. Some ended up on the market and circulated, as they show signs of wear, and the rest remained in the hands of collectors without having circulated"
